Non-nuclear homeland and renewable resources. (2014/06/11 Raymond Lee 海天)
The nuclear power issue is controversial. The problem of the use of nuclear fission reactors to generate electricity from nuclear fuel and the question about nuclear power leak has long been the topic.
Supporters of nuclear energy may argue that nuclear power is a sustainable energy source which reduces carbon emissions and can increase energy security. While the environmental impact of nuclear power results from the nuclear fuel cycle, operation, and the effects of nuclear accidents.
The 1979 Three Mile Island accident and the 1986 Chernobyl disaster, came with high construction costs, and ended the rapid growth of nuclear power.
Japan's worst-ever nuclear accident displaced more than 100,000 people. The residents may safely return home. Yet mistrust of the government prolongs their exile. The accident at Fukushima has convinced many nations to phase out nuclear power.
The events at Fukushima unfolded its disasters, each one more intimidating than the last: the earthquake and tsunami, the nuclear meltdowns, the explosions, the attempts to keep fuel rods from overheating and, finally, the leaks of radioactive water, etc.
It’s possible that the nuclear power plant in Taiwan may be leaking radioactive water. Renewable energy such as wind power and solar power might be the prospective replacements for nuclear power.
For all the renewable resources. I think wind power is the most efficient way. Taiwan has set the wind power development targets up to 814MW for onshore wind power and 15MW for offshore wind power in 2014 and 2015. Offshore large wind farms which adopt larger multi-megawatt turbine can be the most efficient way to generate electricity.
London Array, the world's largest offshore wind power farm, consists of 175 turbines, are capable of generating enough energy to power nearly half a million UK homes and reduce harmful CO2 emissions by over 900,000 tons a year. It makes a big difference to the environment and helps provide a reliable electricity supply to south east England.
