Tidal Power 潮汐發電

Tidal Power  (2014/06/11 Raymond Lee, 海天)

It's critical to have clean renewable energy resources. Tidal power considered to be environmentally friendly, which provides an alternate ‘cleaner’ source of energy, not depleting any resource to create the energy.  Tides are more predictable than wind energy and solar power. The incoming water was contained in large storage ponds, and as the tide went out, it turned waterwheels that used the mechanical power it produced to mill grain.  The world's first large-scale tidal power plant is the Rance Tidal Power Station in France, which became operational in 1966.
Tidal power cannot be depleted like fossil fuels. Tidal forces originated from the gravitational interaction with the Moon and Sun.  The efficiency of tidal power is high, the energy efficiency is approximately 80%, which is much better than solar or wind power.
Tides are predictable, the rise and fall of tides are much more cyclic than random weather patterns. This predictability gives us knowledge when the tides will be in and out. Tidal energy can be generated in two ways, tidal stream generators or by barrage generation. Harnessing tidal power has positive impact on climate change because it produces no greenhouse gas emissions.  The power created though tidal generators is generally more environmentally friendly and causes less impact on established ecosystems.
Taiwan needs more clean renewable energy resources.  Tidal power is highly efficient and environmental friendly.  There won't be erected turbines like wind power, which impair the beauty of the natural scene.   Our government should take tidal power as the next-generation power resources.
