在完成面試和體檢之後，警察局將會對您過去15年做身家背景調查，要求您填寫冗長的問卷，您所填寫的一切都必須是真實的，您必須據實回答。

外表、良好的溝通能力、解決問題能力、良好的觀察、依賴性、是否能在壓力下工作、渴望學習和自我提昇、誠信、對人是否有興趣、法庭上作證的可信賴度等。
申請者必須繳交相關證件資料:
1. 聯邦調查局指紋卡
2. 無重罪判決前科紀錄
3. 過去是否有輕犯罪記錄。
4. 良好的駕駛記錄，沒有交通違規。
5. 有效的汽車保險
6. 信用記錄:如何處理金錢。
7. 經濟責任:儲蓄和檢查帳戶。
8. 高中成績單，GED
9. 高等教育記錄

請提前規劃，不要等到申請需要時才急就章蒐集資料。您的身家背景應該清清白白，平常就要保持良好紀錄，這樣等到您21歲時申請加入警察行列才會順利。
測謊
只要對您過去的歷史誠實的回答，不要隱瞞，測謊其實是非常簡單的過程。不要試圖控制你的呼吸，勿讓測謊儀器嚇到您。測謊過程中請放鬆、保持平靜、回答問題時深思熟慮再回答。
心理評估測試
警察心理專家蘇珊薩克斯-柯利弗德博士表示：
心理評估測試是每個警察局都會做的測試，其目的不在於發現精神疾病，而是希望所招募的人員都是合格的、成熟、積極向上，能夠處理各種事故的員警。
心理測試無須準備，這是一種標準化測試，只要求受試者誠實回答。過程中不斷問您為什麼喜歡執法工作等相同的問題，其目的在查看多次回答是否誠實一致。心理醫生於測試完後將評估報告送給警察局。
